The year 2003, the “Summer of the Century”, also had its dark side: Shade was rare and sought after as never before. This was the case for two Swiss friends from Zurich – Roland J. Fischer and Jean-Christophe Gyr – who sought in vain for a suitable way to stay in the shade. The standard umbrellas were often difficult to secure in the ground as it was so dry. And they also toppled over at the slightest breeze. The two decided to develop a new type of shade provider and one that would stand up to the wind and rain as well. Not only that, they decided, this new “sun umbrella” had to be easy to carry, adjustable to the position of the sun and easily stabilised in a variety of situations by sturdy ground pegs. The SKINCOM Solartent was created. Easily packed in a modest carry-bag (53 cm) and weighing only 2.8 kg, the Solartent provides soothing shade for two or more adults, regardless of whether it is set up on sandy, gravel or even stony beaches, or in a meadow or wooded glade
